As a couple of our friends were having a child naming ceremony for their son and unknown to all the guests were secretly also getting married, a chance to visit U-534 at Birkenhead was on the cards as the couple only live 15 minutes away!I only had 40 minutes or so on the Sunday morning before we took the ferry across the Mersey to Liverpool, but i managed to take a number of shots of U-534 which is now split into three chunks. U534 was north-west of Helsingor, Denmark on the 5th May 1945. Having been instructed by Admiral Donitz to surrender, for some unknown reason, U-534 refused to do so and was depth charged by a Liberator from RAF 547 Squadron. Only three of the crew of fifty-two were killed.In August 1993 the wreckage was raised from the sea bed.

Eden camp is situated between Malton and Scarborough in North Yorkshire.Now a museum, she originally was a P.O.W camp during WWII. From 1942-1944 she house Italian prisoners from the North Africa campaign, from 1944-1948 German prisoners were detained there. The prisoners worked in agriculture at local farms in North Yorkshire.

here are my images from Bovington in September 2004 which was the last time i made it down there. Hoping for a return visit in the summer of 2009.
